Dolly Dimples

I am currently working on a Circus sideshow Fat Lady.
After I started the one for the traveling doll project, I really wanted to make one from start to finish and have carved out some time to start.
I have been doing a little research, looking at vintage pictures. thought I would share some of them with you.
I am hoping to work some more on her tomorrow,
but I always think big. lol, so I guess I will see.

you know, now that I look at the pictures near her, I think I made here too small.

That doll is fantastic!
Too small??? No way... I can't wait to see her progress!

She is a little more petite than the women in the pics, but she is wonderful! ..she can be "the fat lady in training"

Really looking forward to seeing her finished Nicole!

OMG Nicole!!! I so love Clair and I do not blame you for wanting to do another!! I really wanted to finish Claire and had to box her up so I would stop:) I can not wait to see dimple dotty!! I have lots of side show picture and books if you need more reference just let me know. There was a side show attraction and dainty Dotty. she was also a tattooer and a famous tattooers wife ( Owen Jenson) in the 40's and 50's. she died of a heart attack in 1953:( She weighed 600lbs!!!
Very cool Nicloe. I LOVE her!!

Nicole..she IS more petite, as Sue said--if the word "petite" could be used here...BUT, still great and I got right away what character she was even before I read the post--LOVE her and waiting to see the finished product :)

I wish I had pictures to share. My honey's grandmother was the Fat Lady at the circus in the 20s/30s - no joke! He had an elephant/horse riding aunt, a contortionist aunt, a mule-drivin' uncle, and I could go on. The funny thing is that my own grandfather worked as an electrician and played the drums with the same circus. (We met 50+ years after the circus was bought out by Barnum & Bailey.) The name of the circus was The Haag Show or The Mighty Haag Show.

BTW, the tale is she used to hate my honey and would hit him with her walking cane if he ever got close enough! :) Hope I help some creative juices flow a little!

thanks everyone!
Sue, I think she is definitely not big enough, so once I clothe her I will see if she qualifies to train as the fat lady. LOL
Jacqui, ooooh I would love to see all your goods on the circus. can I come over? lol, I did find a pretty cool website that gives all the back info about different performers.
Zan, yes might be too small. but glad that a least she is sending out what she wants to be.

Odd, I used a whole 500gm block of cernit and then some, whew my hands were tired!
Jana, what a great story. I wish you had pictures too!
