I have participated in the Art Dolls Only 4 Elements challenge!
the challenge was to make a art doll with one, two, three or all four of the Elements as inspiration, everyone was invited to join in the fun, ado members and non ado members, first time doll makers and experienced doll makers as well.
We had over 90 participants!!
for my elements doll I went with water, inspired by my recent trip to the shore.
this was my first time ever making just a bust, and I have to say I enjoyed it for the instant satisfaction it brought.
I found most of the shells I used with my kids on our morning walks on the beach.
be sure to visit and take a look at all the element inspired dolls that have been created, a list of participants can be found at the
ADO blog.

Nicole, she is great! Sure not pretty, but she has loads of personality!
Personality for sure. Nicole, you've outdone yourself with this piece.
This is such a fun piece. You have a unique style that makes me smile. I am glad I found your art. Great elements piece by the way. I may have to give that bust thing a try.
I love her Nicole.
And I also love the fact that the shells were hand picked by you and your gorgeous kids.

What a character - your piece really does conjure the sea. The colors are wonderful!

She is great! My 16 yo dd was viewing the various blogs and she remarked how all the mermaids were just too beautiful...yours is what we were looking for! You just cannot look away!!

I love her! This is one of your best pieces. I love her expression... and let's chat about that hair! Fantasticly done... see I even made up a word for this one.
She looks exactly how I feel a real water creature might look! Wonderful work!
You're so imaginative, I love her wild blue hair and those eyes!

Ooooh, scary! Fun doll and great story!
Fantastic, as usual. I love the way you created the water -- it looks as if she's just emerging from a tidal pool. I'm just glad she's not coming after me! :)
This is spectacular (as always!). I love the blue eyebrows that match the hair.
I'll never be able to go in the water again!!
Fantastic work, I love her hair, eyes and teeth!
Amazing bust!! She has such personality!!
What a cool idea for a bust Nicole~the wavy blue hair and shell almost give her an "alternative Birth of Venus" look ala MML style:)
Ah, she reminds me of the sea hag in "The Little Mermaid". My Elements bust must meet yours!...lol. By the way, I LOVE Julia! Great face and personality! :o)
Great job, love the colors and her hair is perfect! ☺
EUOOOW! Gorgeous and gruesome at the same time. I like the way you used the seashells and bits, and her wispy blue hair. Like the idea of a 'bust'.
This is so funny. It made me smile the moment I saw it.
